The following Naxos travel guide is based on our own experience and therefore description given in the guide necessarily contains an element of subjective opinion which may not reflect your own experience on another occasion.
Charming Naxos Island is located almost at the centre of the Aegean Sea – approximately 103 nautical miles from Piraeus. Naxos is the largest, the most fertile and one of the most popular of Cycladic islands. The island has it all - interesting monuments, cliffs sinking into the sea, rocky mountains, fertile valleys and the most importantly miles of almost white sandy beaches on western part of the island.
Naxos Island was first mentioned in myths and had a peak of its glory during the period of the Cycladic civilisation. Nowadays due to fantastic sunny wearher, its superb beaches, very attractive small villages, and its monuments it draw thousands of European tourists every year.
In Naxos town very pleasant may be just a walk along the marina. On one side of the street you will see a number of small fishing boats mixed with luxury white yachts. On the other side you can enjoy beautiful Cycladic architecture and XIII century Venetian castle. From the marina you may stroll towards the Portara monument - 522 B.C. – huge marble gate in front of the harbour.
For all sun enthusiasts Naxos offers miles of fine sandy beaches on western part of the island. It offers also fine nude beaches. If you are an enthusiast of taking off all the clothes you will find at least two fine naturist beaches on Naxos. One is located between Aghia Anna and Maragas and the second one is situated further south from Maragas – follow the sandy road to the very end (see the map for exact locations). Very close to the second nude beach you may find great Marine Dream Studios and Apartments - perfect place to stay if you love sunbathing.

If you are planning to visit Naxos for a day or two from neighbouring Paros Island you may take the car or a motorbike with you - hired one on Paros. The fare is reasonably cheap even if you take your vehicle with you. The key benefit of taking the vehicle is that you can save lots of time and be ready to explore the island straight after disembarking from the ferry.
