WALKS IN SCOTLAND - THE FIFE COASTAL PATH

Aberdour to Burntisland

Are looking for an interesting and not too long walk? If so, we have some suggestion for you.

One of our favourites walks is four kilometres long path linking Aberdour and Burntisland. The walk is part of the Fife Coastal Path which stretches from North Queensferry in the south stretching for approximately 150 kilometres to the Tay Bridge in the north.

The beginning of the walk may depend on the way of transport you are using to get to Aberdour. If you are coming by train you will have to get off the train on the fourth station after the bridge.  If you are coming by car you may drive directly to Silver Sands Beach and park your vehicle on the beach side car park (please see the map beside).

If you like historic places you may stop and visit Aberdour Castle which is located just a few minutes walk from the train station. To visit the castle you will have to pay small admission fee, however, if you are a member of Historic of Scotland the entry is free.

After the visit in the castle you may continue your walk / drive to Silver Sands Beach where you can stop for a picnic and enjoy the view. The beach is very popular and busy during the summer. It is a perfect place for families wishing to enjoy outdoor activity.

From the beach we recommend that you go towards the rock formation to the south where you can enjoy beautiful view over Forth bridges and Inchcolm Island.

After leaving the beach you can walk along the coast towards Burntisland. Do not forget to look out for seals which usually lay on the offshore rocks at low tide. One of the attractions on the path to Burntisland is also small waterfall on the side of the hill.

Once you have reached Burntisland you can go for a lunch in one of the cafes in the town or enjoy really tasty fish and chips on the High Street.  In Burntisland you may also visit fine sandy beach.

Useful information and our recommendations

Silver Sands Beach is perfect for a summer picnic. It is usually very busy in the summer.

If you are lucky you may see seals laying on the offshore rocks at low tide.

Do not forget to take a sunblock cream in the summer. It may seem not necessary considering the latitude of Scotland, however, sun in the summer can be really strong.
