About Glen Coe
Glen Coe is unquestionably one of Scotland’s most historic, beautiful, breathtaking
and scenic Highland glens. It is visited by many domestic and international tourists
every year. It has become a famous centre for a variety of outdoor activities: walking,
skiing, climbing, fishing, sailing, sea kayaking, cycling and horse-riding. It is
perfect for all ages and everyone will surely find something here to enjoy.
From my point of view one of the key attractions is absolutely amazing drive along
A82 through the mountains on both sides of the road. It gives unbelievable feeling
of being completely free and for sure encourages to return to Glen Coe again and
again to enjoy the view and explore surrounding mountains. This is what happened
to me and I have to admit that it is definitively my favourite place in Scotland.
If you like the outdoor activities or looking for breathtaking landscapes (waterfalls,
lochs, reflection of the mountains in the water) Glen Coe is one of the places you
should not miss during your visit to Scotland.
Did you know?
- The mountains of Glen Coe are built from some of the oldest sedimentary and volcanic
strata in the world.
- In Glen Coe area a couple of very successful movies were filmed: “Harry Potter and
the Prisoner of Azkaban”, “Highlander” (with Sean Connery) and “Rob Roy” (with Liam
Neeson).

Useful Information
- If you have more time, you may also visit neighbouring Glen Etive. On the way to
Loch Etive along the River Etive you can enjoy stunning waterfall, beautiful scenery
and wild life. If you are lucky you may see a deer crossing the road therefore please
drive carefully.
- Plan your trip in advance and remember to wear very good shoes and a waterproof jacket
- the weather changes very quickly and sometimes during one day you may experience
four seasons!
- Take plenty of petrol with you. The last thing you want is to worry about it or to
be stuck with no petrol in the middle of Highlands.
- Take a camera and plenty of memory cards with you as you will experience very scenic
and breathtaking ride through the mountains on the way to Glen Coe. It is very difficult
to resist a temptation to stop almost every 100 metres to take a photo!
- If you would like to spend more time in the area you have several choices of accommodation
located in and around the village of Glencoe. If you do not want to stay in Glencoe
you can drive up north to charming Fort William, which is only 14 miles away.
